A Taste for Art. Installation 1999.
In 1997 I prepared a questionnaire with the intention of discovering the art tastes of a city wide selection of Sunderland residents. I literally knocked on doors and talked to people about what they liked, didn't like, what they considered to be worthy of the term 'art'. I managed to persuade many of them to loan the work that hung on their Living room wall to the Northern Gallery of Contemporary Art in Sunderland, where I conceived an installation and exhibition that also included their comments and resons for their choice. There was also a Comments book for every work so that visitors could add their observations.
