A Taste for Art II. Photographic series, 1997.
In 1997 I prepared a questionnaire with the intention of discovering the art preferences of a city wide selection of Sunderland residents. I literally knocked on doors and talked to people about what they liked, didn't like, what they considered to be worthy of the term 'art'. I managed to persuade many of them to allow me to photograph their choice of art, in the their Living Room. This work was developed into an exhibition and installation at the Northern Gallery of Contemporary Art in Sunderland in 1999, (see images and info under Lighting & Installation pages). The framed images were each titled with the owner of the art work. C-Type colour photographs. Image size 7.5 x 9.75 inches (190 x 247 mm), hand printed, with white borders, on 15 x 20 inch (381 x 508 mm) colour photographic paper. Frame material: Hardwood with clear satin varnish.
